A well-preserved M33 Italian Army steel helmet, constructed of a lacquered black magnetic metal shell. Three raised ventilation holes are evenly distributed across the circumference of the exterior, which presents plain with the exception of a peak insignia. Constructed of brass, the insignia consists of a number “22” in Roman numerals, set within a disc with a ribbed border, on top of crossed rifles, and topped by a Savoy-style crown. The insignia measures 50 mm (w) x 80 mm (h). The interior features an original brown leather liner, secured in place with a single magnetic metal clip. The liner transitions into eight flaps, each perforated with eight ventilation holes, with an additional eyelet at the tip through which is looped a length of wire as a replacement for a drawstring. The leather is stamped with an embossed maker’s mark of “A. SINIGAGLIESI, TORINO”. The helmet measures 240 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 135 mm (h). The helmet demonstrates issues consistent with age and use, including some loss of exterior paint, fatigue to the leather elements, and the loss of two of the three interior liner clips. It is in an overall very fine condition.
