Latvia. A Medal of Honour of the Cross of Recognition, III Class, c.1940
(Atzinibas Krusts). Instituted 1938. A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse centre bearing a Maltese cross with a bead at each arm corner and eight rings linking between the arms, on the centre of the cross is the Great Seal of the State and “1938”, the reverse centre bears a bird circumscribed with “DOMAS UN DARBUS LATVIJAI” (THOUGHTS AND WORKS FOR LATVIA), maker marked on the edge “S BERCS”. Measuring 36.15 mm (w) x 40.92 mm (h), weighing 22.8 g, with suspension ring, on a red triangular ribbon with light coloured stripes, very fine.
