Montenegro, Kingdom. A Rare Order of the Red Cross, Breast Star, by LeMaitre
A First War Period, French made breast star, likely a prototype of Montenegro’s Order of the Red Cross, presenting an eight point silver star with clusters of seven faceted rays, the central medallion features a red enamelled cross superimposed on a white enamelled field, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring inscribed црногорскв црвенн крст (Montenegrin Red Cross), with a thin red enamelled border, the reverse features a vertical pin assembly with dual stays, a makers cartouche in the center denotes manufacture by LeMaitre, 346 Rue St Honore, Paris, the star measures 91.23mm (w) x 91.2mm (h), 72.8 grams, loss of red enamel on central cross, oxidation on rays, a unique and rare star in near very fine condition.
