Montenegro, Kingdom. An Order of Danilo, III Class Commander, by Chobillon, c.1915
(Орден Књаза Данила I/Orden Knjaza Danila I). Instituted in 1853. Type IV. (1861 -1918 Issue). Of French manufacture, in silver gilt presenting a cross with white, red and blue enamelled arms, the obverse medallion features a centerpiece with a DI cypher on a red enamelled field, encircled by a blue enamelled ring with the inscription ЗА НЕЗАВИСИМОСТЪ ЦРНЕ ГОРЕ (For the Independence of Montenegro), again surrounded by a white enamel ring, the reverse medallion presents the year 1852-3 in Gold on a red enamelled field enclosed by a Gold ring, again encircled by a red enamelled ring with the inscription КНЯЗЪ ЦРНОГОРСКІИ (Prince of Montenegro), with a white enamel ring, the badge is surmounted by a large crown with moveable pendilia, measures 51.2mm (w) x 75.8mm (h), weighs 54.4 grams, marked on the ring with the makers mark AXC denoting Chobillon manufacture, marked on the loop and the suspension bar with a boars head, denoting French manufacture post 1838, dark patina, scattered gilt wear, worn on a full length neck ribbon (missing ties at the end), small chips to edges of arms, remains in near extremely fine condition.
