Netherlands, Kingdom. An Order of the Union, Grand Cross Star, c.1885
(Orde van de Unie). Instituted 1806. Of French manufacture, Bacqueville made, consisting of a multi rayed silver star, obverse centre presenting a swimming crowned lion with Motto surround Unity makes strength, reverse with dual stays and typical French style pin assembly, measuring 86 mm (w) x 85 mm (h), marked under pin BOZ, toned silver, very fine. Footnote: This Order was instituted by King Louis Napoleon in 1806, as an award to Dutchmen who cooperated with his/French Regime, and come in one class only; it was abolished in 1810, and replaced by the Order of the Reunion of France. This particular star has all the manufacturing characteristics of Bacqueville production, made between 1880-1890.
