A bronze medal measuring 59 mm in diameter, weighing 69 g, the obverse presents a figure rising out of a body of water, above the inscription “WATERSNOOD 1953,” the reverse centre features a dove in flight carrying an olive leaf, a reference to Genesis, inscribed “GEN. 8:11,” circumscribed with “NIL DESPERANDUM” (“NEVER DESPAIR”), maker marked “W” between the dove’s tail feathers and wing, with white hard-paper case, the exterior stamped “VEREENIGING VOOR PENNINGKUNST / PENNING WATERSNOOD 1953,” the inside lined with blue felt, the inside cover stamped “KONINKLIJKE BEGEER VOORSCHOTEN,” handwritten note stating “Netherlands Relief (Flood) / Donor: Cousin Harry McCaughley / May 30, 1953.”

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
