Netherlands, Kingdom. A 1945 Liberation of the Netherlands Commemorative Medallion
Constructed of gilded bronze, obverse depicts a raised female figure clutching a laurel branch in her left hand, with a sword in her right hand being used to sever a length of barbed wire, flanked by inscription “VRIJHEID” (“FREEDOM”), reverse depicts central raised lion trampling a swastika, circumscribed by inscription “JE MAINTIENDRAI - 5 MEI 1945” (“I WILL MAINTAIN - 5 MAY 1945”) separated by a sword and bundle of arrows, designer marked “W” on obverse, measuring 60 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
