Footnote: The Army Long Service Medal was instituted on February 19, 1825, in three grades: I Class Gold Grade for 36 Years' Service (25 in the Colonies), II Class Silver Grade Medal for 24 Years' Service (12 in the Colonies), and III Class Bronze Grade Medal for 12 Years' Service (6 in the Colonies). The Silver and Bronze Grades were initially issued as a 37 mm in diameter award but that was changed to 27 mm in diameter in 1928.
