(Orde van Oranje-Nassau). Instituted on 4 April 1892 by Queen-Regent Emma. A four pointed silver star consisting of 48 individual rays, two swords with gilt handles pierce the center medallion, obverse centre in Gold, featuring a rampant lion on a blue enamelled field with white enamelled surround bearing the motto “JE MAINTIENDRAI” (“I SHALL MAINTAIN”), the reverse has a vertical pinback and four rivets to secure the swords to the obverse, and makers cartouche for J.M.J van WIELIK LA HAVE, measures 83.10mm (w) x 82.45mm (h), weighs 53.6 grams, marked on pin with partial makers mark and silver sword hallmark denoting manufacture between 1906-1953, enamels intact, oxidation to rays, a beautiful Grand Officer Star in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order is conferred upon Dutch citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service to Dutch society. During the Second World War, it was conferred upon Dutch and Allied military personnel for participation in the liberation of the Netherlands and Dutch colonies.
