Footnote: The Medal for the 70th Birthday of King Haakon VII was instituted on October 27, 1942 and awarded to members of the military who were serving with the Norwegian armed forces in Britain on King Haakon's 70th birthday, August 3, 1942, as a symbol of Norway's continuing resistance and hopes of eventual liberation.
