(Den Kongelige Norske Sankt Olavs Orden). Instituted by King Oscar I on August 21, 1847. Type II. A silver Maltese cross with white enamels and ball finials, with a crowned "O" (for "Oscar") in each quadrant, obverse centre in red enamels with a silver Norwegian Lion overlay, with a white and blue enamel surround, reverse centre presenting the motto of the order RET OG SANDHED (Justice and Truth), adorned by silver crown with red, white, and blue enamel details, measuring 41.2 mm (w) x 69 mm (h - inclusive of swivel crown adorned by ax wielding lion), with replacement ring, enamel loss to centre reverse, on period ribbon, near very fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
