Poland. A Scarce & Early Aviators Photo Album
An early and scarce Polish aviators private photo album, measuring 247 mm x 177mm, containing 36 original photos, many of which are captioned. The aerial shots encompass pictures of the city of Kraków and its surroundings, including: Wawel Cathedral, built in the 14th century, the national Polish sanctuary; St. Joseph’s Church in the district of Podgórze, built between 1905 and 1908; Kraków - Port Lotniczy (airport); Staniatka (Staniątki), a small village 20 km east of Kraków; Skotniki; Kraków - Łobzów koszary (barracks); Prądnik Czerwony barracks; Bielany monastery; Wylew Wisły (1925), showing flooding caused by the Vistula river (Polish: Wisła), the longest and largest river in Poland; Dębniki-Wylew, “Dębniki” is a Kraków district, “wylew” means flooding; Błonia Park during flooding; Wiśnicz. The remaining pictures show planes built by different companies: Sikorski (Russia); Bleriot (France); Breguet (France); Ansaldo 300 (Italy) (one picture states “latajace trumny”, meaning “flying coffins”); Feniks; Brandenburg (Hansa-Brandenburg) (Germany); Potez XVA2 (France). Several of the planes show the Polish Air Force checkerboard. One photo shows the squadron (eskadrilla) of General Włodzimierz Zagórski (1882–1927). The final picture is titled “Spadochron”, parachute.
