(Ordem de Cristo). Instituted in 1319, Secularized in 1879. (1844-1910 Issue). Of fine quality, French manufacture in gilded silver, the obverse centre presents a red and white enamelled cross, on a field of white enamel, at the centre of a silver Maltese cross with arms bordered in white enamel, between the cross arms are circles of blue enamel, also between each cross arm are branches of oak leaves, tied at the bottom with a bow, the bow is hallmarked with a Boar’s head for post-1838 silver content and French manufacture, also stamped with an illegible maker’s mark on flat loop, measuring 55.55 mm (w) x 87.60 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension and integral horizontally pierced ball with cross), on wide original ribbon, presenting heavy loss of gilt, presenting loss of enamel on reverse centre, and in very fine condition.
