A nine point silver star with clusters of smooth rays bearing cleft tips, the obverse medallion features another nine point silver star with a red enamel cross on a white enamel field surrounded by a black ring inscribed “talent de bie faire” (“talent to do well”) encircled by a silver wreath, the reverse presents a single vertical pin assembly, with marks mark on base of hinge denoting FREDERICO COSTA LDA, unidentified mark on the pin, measures 76.85mm (w) x 76.45mm (h), weighs 75.4 grams, enamels intact, catch is closed around pin, remains in better than very fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of Prince Henry the Navigator was established by the government of Portugal on 2 June 1960 to commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of the death of the Portuguese prince Henry the Navigator. Prince Henry is considered as the main initiator of the Age of Discovery and the maritime expansion of Portugal.
