A Grand Officer Set, comprising the neck badge in silver gilt, featuring a nine point star with clusters of five dual pronged smooth rays, a red enamel five point star sits atop the rays, the central medallion features a red enamel nine point star with crest in the center surrounded by a white ring inscribed MERITO INDUSTRIAL, the reverse is plain, the badge is surmounted by a green enamel wreath with decorative oval suspension loop, measures 65mm (w) x 94.6mm (h – inclusive of wreath suspension), weighs 58.6 grams (including ribbon), worn on original neck ribbon with tie strings at each end, light enamel wear on stars, minor wear elsewhere, in extremely fine condition. The Star of the order in silver, , featuring a nine point star with clusters of five dual pronged smooth rays, a red enamel five point star sits atop the rays, the central medallion features a red enamel nine point star with crest in the center surrounded by a white ring inscribed MERITO INDUSTRIAL, reverse bears a single pin assembly with ornate detailing near the hinge, base of hinge marked FREDERICO COSTA DA, measures 76.8mm (w) x 74.3mm (h), weighs 72.7 grams, several tips of star bent, light enamel wear, hinge and catch functional, in near extremely fine condition.
Contained in its case of issue, a brown leatherette case with white silk interior lid marked FREDERICO COSTA, LDA and red velvet recessed medalbed, measures 103mm (w) x 245mm (h) x 40mm (d), one hinge missing pin but otherwise functional, multiple pulls in silk interior, light wear to exterior, case in near very fine condition.
Accompanied by the miniature of the order, in silver gilt, enamels intact, in very fine condition.
