Three-piece construction, insignia in silver with red and blue enamels, the insignia bearing the cypher "AM" surrounded by the inscription "PADROEIRA DO REINO" (Patroness of the Kingdom), mounted to a nine-pointed star in silver gilt with white enamels, with silver gilt and white enamelled stars between each of the star points, all on a silver gilt base with nine arms, each of the arms with five emanating rays, measuring 71.3 mm (w) x 70 mm (h), horizontal pinback, chipping and crazing evident in the white enamels on five of the star points, the nine-pointed star loose versus the base, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Immaculate Conception of Vila Viçosa was instituted on February 6, 1818 and discontinued on October 15, 1910 as a Portuguese Order, but retained as a Dynastic Order of the House of Braganza, the former Portuguese Royal Family. It is awarded for services rendered to the Royal House, in four grades: Grand Cross, Commander, Knight and Servant.
