Romania, Kingdom. An Order of the Star of Romania, Grand Officer, by Heinrich Weiss

(Ordinul Steaua României). Instituted on 10 May 18778 by Prince Carol I. Type II. (1932-1947 Issue). A Grand Officer’s Set, comprising the neck badge, in silver gilt, presenting a blue enamelled Romanian cross with an eagle with outspread wings in each quadrant, the obverse medallion presents the cypher of Carol I on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed IN FIDE SALUS, encircled by a green enamelled laurel wreath, the reverse medallion presents the year 1877 on the red enamelled field, surmounted by a large crown, measuring 50.6mm (w) x 74.4mm (h – inclusive of attached crown), weighs 45.3 grams (including ribbon), marked on ring with a silver hallmark from 1926-1937 denoting a fineness of .800 and the town of Muntenia, also marked with HW maker mark denoting Heinrich Weiss, enamels intact, loss of gilt on lower half of decoration, remains in extremely fine condition.

Accompanied by the Star of the Order, consisting of an eight point star with clusters of four faceted rays, the obverse medallion presents the cypher of Carol I on a red enamelled field, surrounded by a blue ring inscribed IN FIDE SALUS (IN FAITH IS THE SALVATION), encircled by a green enamelled laurel wreath, surrounding the medallion are four silver eagles with wingtips touching, the 800/100 Romanian crown silver quality mark present on the last facet of the 9 o’clock arm, the reverse presents a single pin and catch, medallion depicts a maker cartouche HEINRICH WEISS BUCAREST, the pin is marked 0438, the HW maker mark, and Romanian crown silver quality denoting a fineness of .800 and the town of Muntenia, measures 69.1mm (w) x 69.5mm (h), weighs 37.0 grams, enamels intact, a lovely decoration in extremely fine condition.

Contained in its case of issue, a brown leatherette exterior marked with the cypher of Carol, the interior features a silk coloured partially recessed medal bed, the interior lid in silk marked Bijuterir Weiss Bucaresti, measures 110mm (w) x 240mm (h) x 40mm (d), hinge and clasps functional, light scuffing to exterior around the corners and a stain present in the interior, remains in very fine condition.
