Type I (1877-1932). In silver gilt with red, green and blue enamels, maker marked ""RESCH"" (Joseph Resch, Bucharest) on the edge of the arm at 6 o'clock, Romanian eagle on the obverse centrepiece, measuring 43 mm (w) x 70.5 mm (h) inclusive of its crown and crossed swords suspension, original ribbon, missing its ring, intact enamels, traces of gilt remains, near extremely fine. In original Joseph Resch, Bucharest case of issue, blue leather wrapped, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Star of Romania is Romania's highest civil Order and second highest State decoration after the defunct Order of Michael the Brave. It was originally awarded in six grades: Grand Cross with Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
