Romania, Kingdom. An Order of the Star, Knight’s Cross with Swords, c.1940
(Ordin Steaua României) Instituted 1877. A cross crosslet constructed of silver and multi-coloured enamels, the centre bears the cipher “CI” (Carol I), encompassed by a blue enamel border inscribed “IN FIDE SALUS” (SAFETY IN FAITH) with three stars at the bottom, encompassed by another border of green enamel oak leaves, the cross arms are in blue enamel, an eagle with outstretched wings lay in the quadrants between the arms, the reverse centre bears the inscription “1877” on a red enamel background, encompassed by a green enamel oak leaf border, the top bears two upwards facing crossed swords and a crown suspension, suspension loop is marked “6916” “(SILBER)” “(CFZ)”, measuring 40.50 mm (w) x 68.72 mm (h), weighing 28.6 g, on a red ribbon with yellow and light blue stripes, very fine.
