Romania, Kingdom. An Order of the Star of Romania, Commander Cross with Case, c.1940

(Ordinul Steaua României). Instituted in 1877. Type II (1932-1947). Peacetime Military. In bronze gilt, a blue enamelled cross with eagles in each quadrant, the obverse medallion bearing the cypher of Carol I on a red enamel field, surrounded by a blue ring inscribed IN FIDE SALUS with a green wreath surround, the reverse bears the date 1877 with a green enamel surround, surmounted by cross swords and crown, measures 50.4mm (w) x 79.9mm (h), weighs 51.5 grams, accompanied by a full length neck ribbon contained in case, enamel chip on the blue enamel surround and 6 o’clock arm, remains in near extremely fine condition.

Contained in original case of issue, a hardshell burgundy case, the obverse presents the crowned cypher of Michael I and is inscribed “Steaua Romaniei Cavaler” on the lid, the interior presents a partial burgundy velvet recessed medal bed, section near hinge for the neck ribbon, the lid is marked MONETARIA NATIONALA, measures 84mm (w) x 139mm (h) x 22mm (d), hinge functional, clasp does not lock/close, wear to exterior, in fine condition.
