A Royal Romanian Army General's Dagger by F.W. Holler Solingen
A Royal Romanian Army General's Dagger by F.W. Holler Solingen; Only issued in the year 1932; German-made, measuring 258 mm in length with the scabbard on, this dagger has a silvered bronze blade, magnetic, double-edged diamond cross section, with un-sharpened edges and an extremely sharp tip, ornate design on both sides, the obverse with the cypher of Carol II in the middle of the design, the reverse with the Romanian coat-of-arms in the centre of the design, the reverse ricasso maker marked "F.W. HOLLER SOLINGEN", exhibiting scattered surface wear, the blade measuring 153 mm in length. The dagger has a bronze gilt crossguard, the quillon turning downward at one end and upward at the other, the obverse with the Romanian coat-of-arms, the reverse inscribed "NIHIL SINE DEO" (Nothing Without God), ivory grip with seven rows of wire wrap, the bronze gilt grip spine with the crowned cypher of Carol II above the left-facing bust of the monarch interlaced with a floral design, bronze gilt crowned eagle's head forms the pommel, a lateral ring hole at the back of the eagle's head with ring that would have attached to a portepee. Scattered gilt wear on the handle hardware, the ivory grip is loose fitting, the dagger measuring 247 mm in length. The scabbard is brass with a clip on the reverse for attachment to a belt, the scabbard measuring 163 mm in length. Very fine. (C:41)
