Romania, Kingdom. A Royal Romanian Non-Commissioned Officer's Dress Dagger, c. 1941
Dagger with a nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, designed with bevelled edges, with dull edges and a dull tip, the ricasso unmarked, the blade measuring 143 mm in length. The blade is embedded into the silvered bronze crossguard with protruding quillon, all of which bears an ornate design, the grip with black synthetic chequered plates on either side that are secured in place by two rivets, the one on the obverse with the monogram of HM King Michael I of Romania in bronze affixed, the silvered bronze pommel in the form of a feathered eagle's head with red stones representing its eyes, with a portepee loop attached to the eagle's throat, the dagger measuring 227 mmin length. The bayonet is in its magnetic metal scabbard, the end point finished in a ball finial, with frog stud on the obverse, the scabbard measuring 170 mm in length, housed in its black leather holster that incorporates two straps in fine gold-coloured bullion wire, each with a slider. The reverse of the blade and sides of the grip exhibits surface rust, the grip with crazing evident in the black synthetic plate on the reverse, with contact overall; the scabbard with surface wear and contact marks.
