Footnote: The Order was instituted in 1948 in three classes, 1st, 2nd and 3rd, to reward merit, especially in the field of work but in the event was awarded for achievement in a wide number of fields. In 1965, when the name of the state was changed from the Romanian People's Republic to the Romanian Socialist Republic, the letters RPR changed to RSR, as per this example.
