Russia, Imperial. A Red Cross Badge for the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 by I. Khlebnikov
Constructed of silver with enamels, consisting of a central red enameled Geneva Cross, set inside of a stylized ribbon bearing raised dates of “1877-1878”, topped by a Romanov imperial crown, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, the obverse with a Russian Cyrillic maker’s mark of “ИК” for “И. Хлебников” (“I. Khlebnikov”) and a zolotnik mark of “84” for a silver content of .875, measuring 25.71 mm (w) x 45.89 mm (h), weighing 8.7 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux black leather exterior, the interior with a white satin lid liner maker marked “Хлѣбниковъ” (“Khlebnikov”) in archaic Russian Cyrillic, with a slotted blue felt medal bed, opening with a functional bronze spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 49 mm (w) x 65 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), also accompanied by its period original certificate of issue, dated 6 March 1880, with issue number “20646”, measuring 235 mm (w) x 318 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
