Russia, Imperial. A Commemorative Medal for Victory at the Battle of Poltava
Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse bearing a raised depiction of Tsar Peter I (“the Great”) in full armour and mounted on a horse trampling fallen enemy combatants, circumscribed by patriotic slogans in Latin, situated above name and titles similarly presented in Latin, the reverse bearing a central depiction of Hercules wielding a club, surrounded by cannons and flag standards, overlaid a topographical map of Poltava, situated above a Latin inscription praising the destruction of the Swedish Army, unmarked, measuring 65 mm in diameter, with some nicks and surface wear evident, in better than very fine condition.
