Russia, Imperial. A 1731 Commemorative Medallion for Monetary Reform
Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse bearing a raised and right-facing bust of Tsarina Anna, circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, the reverse bearing a raised depiction of Providence, surrounded by a Latin inscription indicating that the medallion was issued to commemorate the 1731 reform of the monetary system in the Russia (which included the introduction of the ruble), the obverse bearing an unidentified maker’s mark, measuring 35 mm in diameter, with minor loss of finish and surface oxidation evident, in better than very fine condition.
