Russia, Imperial. An 1887 Wenzel Gruber Medal
Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised bust of Austrian-born anatomist Wenzel Gruber in high relief and exceptional detail, circumscribed by his Russified name in Cyrillic script, flanked by dates “1847-1887”, the reverse bearing an elaborate wreathed monogram topped by a Cyrillic dedication to Wenzel’s teaching and training of 8,000 medical professionals during his career at the University of St. Petersburg, unmarked, measuring 70 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
