What's a max bid?

Russia, Imperial. An Order of St. George in Gold, III Class, c.1815

(Императорский Военный Орден Св. Великомученика Победоносца и Чудотворца Георгия). Instituted 26 November 1769 by Catherine II. A beautiful Austrian made Order of Saint George, constructed of Gold with white enamelled arms, obverse medallion bearing a delicately hand painted scene of St. George riding a white horse, spearing a green dragon on a light pink background, reverse medallion bearing a hand painted Cyrillic monogram of “СГ” for “СВЯТОГО ГЕОРГИЯ” (“SAINT GEORGE”), double construction pins visible on the medallion edges between each arm denoting early manufacture, measuring 41.43mm (w) x 44.63mm (h – inclusive of integral ring), weighing 22.3 grams (without ribbon), the badge suspended from a characteristic Austrian loop and worn on a mid 19th century ribbon exhibiting wear, enamel of arms fully intact with light wear, reverse medallion cipher worn with several very small enamel chips, slight contact marks along edges of arms, overall excellent quality and in very fine condition.

 

Footnote: This Order was at first created as a purely civilian award. It was conferred upon those who served the state for at least 35 years. In addition, it was conferred upon those who had assisted during emergencies, epidemics, or famine, and those who had saved others from danger. It could also be bestowed upon the clergy and to those who had made distinguished contributions to their professions.
