Russia, Imperial. A Set of Imperial Russian Army Guards Regiment Retired Lieutenant General Epaulettes, with Case, by P.A. Fokin
(Эполеты генерал-лейтенанта гвардейских полков Российской Императорской армии в отставке). A very well-preserved, privately-purchased set of epaulettes belonging to a retired Lieutenant General of the Imperial Russian Army Guards Regiment. Each epaulette is constructed of a padded, smooth red wool base, topped by a layer of fine woven silver aluminum wire threading. Both are trimmed at the exterior with an array of silver aluminum wire tassels, emanating from a cascading fringe of identical construction. The outer edge of each is pinned with three five-pointed stars, all constructed of gilded bronze. The inner edge of each retains a silvered bronze button bearing a raised Romanov-style Russian imperial eagle. Unmarked, each epaulette measures 120 mm (w) x 170 mm (l) at its widest dimension. They are accompanied by their period original case of issue, constructed of a two-piece heavy card stock frame with a white cotton interior liner. The lid retains a fully intact manufacturer’s label reading “П.А. ФОКИН” for the firm of P.A. Fokin of St. Petersburg. Both the construction of the epaulettes and the maker’s information indicate that manufacture took place circa 1905. Extremely minor wear is evident to the epaulettes, with age-appropriate material fatigue visible throughout the presentation case. The set is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
