A well-preserved and striking icon, constructed of a wooden base with a cascading brass frame. The obverse depicts the hand-painted face of Christ with his right hand raised in a blessing signifying his initials “IC XC” (“ΙΗϹΟΥϹ ΧΡΙϹΤΟϹ” or “JESUS CHRIST”), while his left hand holds a globus cruciger (an orb overlaid by a cross, signifying Christ’s dominion over the world). The visible portions of the image beyond the face and hands demonstrate no further painting. The image is overlaid by an ornate silvered brass revetment (or oklad), featuring a raised halo and detailed elements of Christ’s robes and surrounding border. The reverse features a purple canvas liner, and is secured in place with two magnetic metal nails. Unmarked, it measures 19.5 cm (w) x 23 cm (h). The icon is secreted within a custom-fitted kiot, constructed of a lacquered wooden frame with a retractable cover and intact glass face. The cover locks closed with a functional swivel catch, and is topped on the reverse with a bronze suspension loop. Unmarked, the kiot measures 22 cm (w) x 25 cm (l) x 7 cm (h).
