Russia, Imperial. A Cross of St. George, IV Class, c.1917
(Георгиевский крест, 4-й степени). Instituted February 1807 by Tsar Alexander I. (1807-1917 issue). Constructed of silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with ribbed arms, the obverse bearing a central raised depiction of St. George slaying a dragon, the reverse bearing a central raised disc with Cyrillic characters “СГ” (“SG”) as the saint’s monogram, the three and nine o’clock arms etched with a number of “109636”, the six o’clock arm bearing an inscription of “4 СТЕП” (“4TH CLASS”), the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring, unmarked, measuring 34.22 mm (w) x 40.78 mm (h), weighing 10.6 grams, with minor wear evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
