Russia, Imperial. A Kazan Military School Badge
Instituted April 1915. In bronze and silvered bronze, a white enamel cross with blue border, the center has been superimposed with the combined monogram of Alexander II and Nicholas II surmounted by an imperial crown, behind the cross sits an oxidized shield with the dates 1866 and 1909 between the 9 and 12 and the 12 and 3 o’clock arms, with the inscription translating to CONQUER OR DIE, with crossed swords behind the shield bearing the hits and the tip of the blade, the reverse of the 12 o’clock arm is numbered 3731, the central reverse offers a reinforced screwback, the screwback plate presents two small rings on either side and is marked with a kokoshnik and partial maker mark, the badge measures 38.2mm (w) x 38.25mm (h), weighs 26.1 grams, light wear to enamel, a rare badge in very fine condition.
