Russia, Imperial. An Order of St. Stanislaus, III Class with Swords
Instituted 7 May 1765 by Stanisław II Augustus. (Reinstituted 1839 by Tsar Nicholas I). Constructed of silver gilt with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a red enameled Maltese cross with ball finials, with a double headed Romanov-style imperial eagle in each quadrant, with swords underneath the eagles crossing at the centre of the decoration, central white enameled medallion bearing red letters “SS”, surrounded by green laurel wreath, reverse of cross in silver with identical central medallion, partially-legible maker’s mark on bottom arm, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, measuring 48.29 mm (w) x 52.25 mm (h) inclusive of suspension apparatus, weighing 25.1 grams inclusive of suspension and ribbon, in better than very fine condition.
