Insignia in silver gilt with blue, white, red and green enamels, mounted to an eight-pointed star base, each star point with five faceted rays, maker marked "ALBERTI & C. Via No. Bixio 4 MILANO" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 72.2 mm (w) x 74.3 mm (h), vertical pinback, crazing evident in the white enamels on the arm of the cross at 6 o'clock, otherwise the enamels are intact, the insignia sitting loose versus the star base, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of San Marino or Civil and Military Equestrian Order of Saint Marinus was established on August 13, 1859 and is presented for outstanding civil or military services to the Republic, or for humanitarian, artistic, political or scientific accomplishment, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, plus a Medal in Gold, Silver or Bronze Grades.
