In silver gilt with blue and white enamels, portrait of San Marino surrounded by the Italian inscription "SAN MARINO PROTETTORE" (San Marino Protector) on the obverse, San Marino coat-of arms surrounded by the Italian inscription " MERITO CIVILE E MILITARE" (Civil and Military Merit) on the reverse, measuring 43.2 mm (w) x 62.5 mm (h) inclusive of its crown and laterally-pierced ball suspension, the reverse with chipping evident in the blue enamels on the centrepiece ring. along with crazing and chipping in the white enamels on the arms at 3 and 9 o'clock, the crown missing its cross, original ribbon with two threads visible where the large rosette once resided, very fine.
Footnote: The Order of San Marino or Civil and Military Equestrian Order of Saint Marinus was established on August 13, 1859 and is presented for outstanding civil or military services to the Republic, or for humanitarian, artistic, political or scientific accomplishment, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, plus a Medal in Gold, Silver or Bronze Grades.
