(Orden Takovskog Krsta). Instituted in 1865. Type IV. In silver gilt with red, white, blue and green enamels, cypher of Mihailo Obrenović IV on the obverse, measuring 42 mm (w) x 70.3 mm (h) inclusive of its crown and laterally-pierced ball suspension, tiny chip in the white enamels at the top of the arm at 12 o'clock on the obverse, otherwise the enamels are intact, ring marked "VM" (for Vinc Mayer, Wien), along with a silver hallmark; on its original full-length neck ribbon, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, red pebbled exterior on five sides, black pebbled bottom, crowned Serbian coat-of-arms in gold-coloured ink on the lid, inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "ROTHE WIEN", base in black felt with a raised platform housing a recessed medal bed, slight undulation in the lid, case also extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Cross of Takovo was instituted in the Principality of Serbia in 1865 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire, which had started in Takovo, Serbia. The decree that established the Cross and Silver Medal was signed on May 22, 1865 by Mihailo Obrenović III, Prince of Serbia. The Order was suppressed in 1903.
