Spain, Franco Period. A Province of Burgos Merit Prize in Gold, c.1964
Of outstanding quality and make, finely crafted in 18K Gold with red, white and yellow enamels, weighing 27.1 grams inclusive of its neck cord, obverse illustrating the crowned Province of Burgos coat-of-arms, surrounded by a ribbon banner inscribed "LA PROVINCIA DE BURGOS PREMIO AL MERITO", on an ornate frame, reverse engraved "SERVANDO FERNANDEZ VICTORIO Y CAMPS 18-4-1964" (April 18, 1964), with laurel leaves appearing above, 37 mm x 47 mm, suspended from a full-length neck cord with adjustment knot in gold-coloured bullion wire and maroon embroidery, intact enamels, very light contact, near mint! In its hardshelled case of issue, maker marked "J. Saz MADRID" (Joaquin Saz), raised platform medal bed, scuffing, wear and soiling evident on the exterior, case very fine.
