A Mint Boxed 1936 Spanish Civil War Campaign Medal by Industrias Egana
A mint and unissued “Medalla de la Campana 1936-1939”; circular gilded and blackened bronze; on loop for suspension; with its period original ribbon with a horizontal pinback attached; the obverse with a gilded half-wreath of laurel leaves on the right, and a half-wreath of oak leaves to the left, with a blackened, recessed center depicting a lion slaying a griffin with a hammer and sickle on its wing, all superimposed over four gilded swords oriented like a cross, with a sun with shining rays on the top right quarter, and “17 Julio 1936” on the top left quarter of the medal; the reverse with a gilded eagle clutching a blackened Spanish coat of arms beside the fascist symbol of five arrows tied together with a rope towards the right, and a Spanish helmet towards the bottom, and inscribed “Arriba Espana”; measuring 36.81 mm in diameter 27.0 grams. Accompanied with its original wax paper wrappings and its original box of issue; constructed of cardstock; marked “Industries Egana, Telef: 464, Motrico (guipuzcoa)” on the obverse, with the rest blank”; measuring 91 mm x 46 mm x 16 mm; mint and unissued in top condition.
