Germany, Wehrmacht. A Blue Division Medal
(Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus). Constructed of gilded zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central sword overlaid by dual shields, with one shield bearing a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and the other a Falange insignia, above a swastika flanked by laurel leaves, the reverse bearing an inscription of “DIVISIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE VOLUNTARIOS EN RUSIA” (“DIVISION OF SPANISH VOLUNTEERS IN RUSSIA”), above an Iron Cross and oak and laurel branches, measuring 32.52 mm in diameter, weighing 12.7 grams, the medal retains most of its gilt finish but demonstrates some oxidation, in overall better than very fine condition.
