Spain, Facist State. A War Cross, Type I (1938-1942), Fullsize and Miniature
(Cruze de Guerra). Instituted in 1938. Fullsize: three-piece construction, centrepiece insignia in bronze gilt with red, white and blue enamels, the insignia centering a silver gilt wreath with cross and backed by crossed swords, the four arms of the cross bearing the Franco crown, two facing lions and a castle, mounted to a silver eight-pointed star base, each star point with five pairs of faceted rays, measuring 61.5 mm (w) x 60.7 mm (h), vertical pinback, chipping and loss evident in the blue enamels on the centrepiece ring, very fine. Accompanied by its Miniature: two-piece construction, in silvered and gilt bronze with with red, white and blue enamels, measuring 17.5 mm (w) x 17.7 mm (h), button hole attachment, intact enamels, greening evident on gilded portion, better than very fine.
