(Orden del Mérito de la Guardia Civil, Gran Cruz al Merito con Distintivo Roja). Instituted in 1976. Three-piece construction, in bronze gilt with red and green enamels, obverse centrepiece illustrating crossed fasces and sword with the inscription "AL MERITO" above, within an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, mounted to a green cross base with seven gilt rays between each arm, reverse centrepiece with the conjoined letters "GC" (Guardia Civil), measuring 64 mm (w) x 64 mm (h), floral motif on the vertical pinback and flanked by dual stays, intact enamels, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Merit of the Civil Guard was instituted on February 12, 1976, to be awarded for service bringing prestige to the Guard and of merit to the State. The Spanish Civil Guard is a police force of military organization.
