A beautiful commander by number in silver gilt, featuring a four armed star with red enamel interior and large ball finials, between each quadrant sits five smooth rays, the obverse medallion features the cypher FR7, surrounded by a green enamelled wreath with white banner bearing the inscription A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (For the Pure Loyalty of Isabella the Catholic), a crown with small blue enamelled disc bearing the caraval and towers, the reverse presents a single vertical pin flanked by dual stays, measures 71.6mm (w) x 71.2mm (h), weighs 56.8 grams, very minor flaking to green enamel in wreath, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in original clam-shaped case of issue, featuring an exterior brown leatherette impressed with the period Spanish coat of arms, the interior features a rich red silk lid impressed with makers mark M. Cejalvo. JOYERIA CRUZ 11 MADRID, with a pillowed medalbed, the case measures 89.8mm (w) x 96.4mm (l – including push button for clasp release) x 33.5mm (d), hinge and catch functional, light wear and discolouration throughout, however, remains in very fine condition.
