Spain, Kingdom. An Order of St. Hermenegildo, Grand Cross
(Real y Militar Orden de San Hermenegildo). Instituted November 28, 1814 by King Ferdnando VII. A Grand Cross in bronze gilt, white enamel arms with a blue enamel medallion featuring a rearing horse with rider, surrounded by the inscription PREMIO ALA CONSTANCIA MILITAR (Award for Military Constancy), the reverse presents the cypher F.VIII encircled by a blue ring, the cross is surmounted by a Spanish crown, measures 37.7mm (w) x 55.5mm (h – including crown), medallions have been reaffixed, enamels intact, in very fine condition. Worn on a full length white and pink replacement sash.
