(Orden al Mérito Civil). Instituted 1926. 1942-1975 Issue. A silver gilt four-armed cross, each arm composed of clusters of individual rays, obverse centre featuring a superposed enameled blue cross inscribed AL MERITO CIVIL (To Civil Merit) in silver gilt, adorned by a silver gilt Spanish crown, featuring plain reverse, suspended by an green laurels, measuring 48.32 mm (w) x 78.24 mm (h - inclusive of the wreath suspension and integral arc), with lost of gilt, accompanied by original ribbon, extremely fine.
The Order of Civil Merit was established in Spain by King Alfonso XII/Alphonso XII on June 25, 1926. It is conferred upon both Spanish and foreign citizens who have displayed civil virtue and meritorious actions which have served to benefit Spanish interests. The Order was abolished in 1933 by the Second Spanish Republic, and reinstated in 1942 by General Francisco Franco
