A four-armed cross composed by clusters of faceted rays in silver gilt, with obverse featuring a superposed enameled blue cross inscribed AL MERITO CIVIL (To Civil Merit), adorned by a typical of time period Spanish crown, featuring plain reverse, suspended by an enameled green laurel wreath also in silver gilt, measuring 48.67 mm (w) x 79.48 mm (h - inclusive of the wreath suspension), light contact, accompanied by original neck ribbon, extremely fine.
The Order of Civil Merit was established in Spain by King Alfonso XII/Alphonso XII on June 25, 1926. It is conferred upon both Spanish and foreign citizens who have displayed civil virtue and meritorious actions which have served to benefit Spanish interests. The Order was abolished in 1933 by the Second Spanish Republic, and reinstated in 1942 by General Francisco Franco
