Spain, Kingdom. A Civil Order of Alfonso XII, Grand Cross Star in Gold
(Orden Civil de Alfonso XII). Instituted in 1902. (1902-1988 Issue). A superb four-armed enameled purple cross in 18K Gold, with three enamelled purple rays in each quadrant, obverse centre with superposed hand chiseled silver eagle surrounded by Latin inscription AXII ALTIORA PETO (I Aspire to the Highest) in silver lettering, also surrounded a palm branch and a green-enamelled laurel branch, with a red-enamelled Alfonso’s XII crown on the 12 o’clock arm, and red, blue, and white enamelled Spanish Coat of Arms on the 6 o’clock arm, reverse with decorative pin assembly and dual stays, unmarked, measuring 85.84 mm (w) x 85.63 mm (h), very small enamel flake on the centre, circa 1910, of superb quality manufacture and in extremely fine condition. This star in Gold is rare.
