Spain, Kingdom. A Royal and Military Order of Saint Ferdinand, Miniature II Class in Gold, c. 1830
(Real y Militar Orden de San Fernando). Instituted August 31, 1811. Type II (1815-1920). Of French manufacture, in 18K Gold, a beautiful white enamelled Maltese cross with ball finials and segments of green enamelled wreath in each quadrant, the obverse medallion features a gold medallion with the figure of St. Ferdinand with a blue ring inscribed AL MERITO MILITAR, the reverse bears a gold medallion with the inscription EL REY Y LA PATRIA in a blue ring, the cross is surmounted by a wreath suspension, marked with a rams head denoting French manufacture of 18K Gold between 1819-1838, measures 12.2mm (w) x 20.0mm (h), weighs 2.1 grams (including ribbon), worn on a correct small ribbon, enamels intact, a lovely miniature in extremely fine condition.
