Instituted 25 June 1926. A presentation case for a Grand Cross or Commander’s Star of the Order of Civil Merit, constructed of a wood frame with a faux blue leather exterior, the obverse with a gold embossed Spanish coat of arms, with an inscription of “Mérito Civil”, the interior with a padded white satin-type lid liner, with a silver maker’s mark of “Cejalvo, Cruz 5Y7 Madrid”, with an intact hinge cover, with a slotted white satin-type medal bed, opening with a functional bronze spring catch with exterior stud release, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, measuring 92 mm (w) x 92 mm (l) x 30 mm (h), minor material fatigue evident, otherwise in better than very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
