Spain, Kingdom. An Order of Isabella the Catholic, I Class Grand Cross Star
(Orden de Isabel la Católica). Instituted in 1815. Multi-piece construction, of exceptional top quality manufacture, unmarked, convex-shaped, in silver gilt with red, white, green, light blue and dark green enamels, the obverse centrepiece in Gold and bearing the Royal monogram of Queen Isabella II, the monogram surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves and bearing the inscription "A LA LEALTAD AGRISOLAI DA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA", the wreath surmounted by a Gold crown, with five emanating rays between each arm of the cross and incorporating ball finials on all eight points of the arms of the cross, measuring 70.5 mm (w) x 70 mm (h), vertical pinback, fine chipping evident in the green enamels on the laurel leaves on the wreath in a few locations, otherwise the enamels are intact, better than very fine. Footnote: The Order of Isabella the Catholic was instituted on March 24, 1815 by Ferdinand VII. It is awarded for services of a civil nature that benefit the country, including to foreign diplomats, in five grades: Grand Cross with Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander by Number, Commander, Knight, plus the Silver Cross and the Medal of Isabella the Catholic.
