Four-piece construction, in silver with red, white and green enamels, obverse centrepiece illustrating crossed fasces and sword with the inscription "AL MERITO" above, within an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, mounted to a green cross base, reverse centrepiece with the conjoined letters "GC" (Guardia Civil), measuring 43.8 mm (w) x 51.8 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, original ribbon, on a traditional Spanish-style horizontal hanger with pinback, intact enamels, very light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Merit of the Civil Guard was instituted on February 12, 1976, to be awarded for service bringing prestige to the Guard and of merit to the State. The Spanish Civil Guard is a police force of military organization.
